Ian had talked us in to going to see what the local farmers get up to. Today was lamb docking - handled very professionally and calmly and the lambs were not too distressed. Ouch! I think we have become bewitched by Pongoroa. The people here are so generous and friendly and community-orientated. They work their socks off but would do anything to help anyone - even tourists on holiday. We will not forget this remote and beautiful place. Then set out on our 50 mile cycle to Masterton. Wind - OMG!!! 25 miles of struggle against the enemy then it went and we had 25 miles of gentle downhill in a light breeze in the most delightful farmland scenery and beautiful sunshine. Route 52 is to be recommended to anyone on a bike and, of course, the Pongaroa Hotel is a must. We have now passed 500 miles - doesn't sound much but it is a milestone for us. Yes, I have been drinking champagne!
500 miles!!
