19.10.13 Saturday
This place is seriously out in the sticks, no wifi, no broadband and no phone coverage so consequently credit cards don't work either. But it's a delightful place all the same. The people are so friendly and welcoming - the owners of Wimbledon Tavern (where we are staying) and the local farmers at the bar are genuine, lovely, warm people.  Not too pleased to wake up to pouring rain and no way of delaying travel. Our bike book tells us that after 30 km there is a verandah one can shelter under but nothing else!!! Mercifully, the rain stopped and the sun came out and off we set. We didn't need the verandah after all. The road (route 52) is excellent, only a handful of vehicles passed us today. The scenery is stunning, just mile after mile of unspoilt views over spectacular countryside. Of course this means lots of hills! Pongaroa is the friendliest, loveliest village and boy, were we glad to get there! Now back at the pub for the rugby NZ v Oz.
