Day off today. Visited Hobbiton - a gorgeous set and setting. Shame there was no sun for the photos but at least the rain had stopped and there were no crowds. There is such attention to detail with beautifully maintained gardens and landscapes - even the lichen on the fences was man-made specially - with toothpaste and something. The oak tree above Bag End is synthetic and cost $1 million to make. It has just had a new set of leaves glued back on at enormous cost as the originals blew off!!! The party tree is real but at 90 yrs old with a life expectancy of 100 it is showing its age and costing $ 100s of thousands to keep alive.
