Cheated again - bus to Hastings to avoid the 100 mile journey on a narrow, cycle-hostile road across the mountains in the rain! Hastings is very quiet. We are now experts at recognising Art Deco and other local architectural styles. The real purpose of visiting Hastings is for the wineries and we have done 2 tours, one guided and one on bikes. Hawkes Bay wines are quite different for us and I'm pleased to say we can just about remember where we've been and what we were told. Some of the wineries have very luxurious reception/ tasting facilities. Lunch at Craggy Range was v pretty! We met up with our old friend Pops, who took us for whistle stop tour of Napier - this is a beautiful city with its Art Deco buildings, cafe culture and sea front. We then met his wife, Fi, and family and had a delicious meal in their lovely home (also a B&B if anyone wants recommendations).
